My Own Garden

Views of my own garden in Belmont Village, Lancashire are shown below.

The garden clings to an exposed north-east facing slope.  Terraces are retained by dry stone walls of local millstone grit and are linked via pathways and steps.  Careful selection of tough hardy plants ensures interest all year round.

Rheum, Rodgersia, Iris pseudocorus and Acers all do well, tolerating the low light levels and cold wet winters.  Carex flagellifera is used as a neutral infill throughout the garden, with Meconopsis cambrica reliably self seeding all over the place.  Low box hedging adds a a touch of formallity close to the house.

A couple of small 'feature' lawns are squeezed in where the ground is flat enough, but generally this is a garden of plants . . . and dogs!
